Japanese Moffle: A Delicious Fusion of Mochi and Waffle
The Moffle, a clever blend of “mochi” and “waffle,” is a snack that brings together mochi’s distinctive chewy texture with the crispy, convenient delight of waffles. Here’s a straightforward guide to creating your own Moffles at home:
Here’s how you can create your own Moffles at home!
Ingredients:
- Kiri Mochi (round shape)

- Toppings of your choice: Butter, honey, soy sauce, or any other delectable addition
Other recommended toppings:
Kinako & Kuromitsu (rosted soy bean flour and black sugar syrup)
Anko (red bean paste)
Equipment:
- Waffle baker
Instructions:
1) Start by preheating your waffle baker according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If your waffle iron has a tendency to stick, be sure to lightly grease both sides with cooking spray or a brush of oil.
2) Place two pieces of mochi in the center of the waffle iron and close the lid. At this point, the lid should not be completely closed – just resting on top to allow the mochi to warm up and soften.
3) After a moment, go ahead and close the lid completely. Bake for about 3 more minutes, keeping a close eye to avoid overcooking.

4) Carefully remove the moffle from the waffle iron and place it on a plate. Let it cool for a minute, as it will be quite sticky at first.

5) Now comes the fun part – time to add your desired toppings! I love to top my moffles with a pat of unsalted butter, a drizzle of honey, and a touch of soy sauce. The sweet and savory combination is simply divine.
6) Feel free to get creative with your toppings – traditional Japanese options like anko (sweet red bean paste) or kinako (roasted soybean flour) are also delightful choices.
